Why is the dirt we offer the BEST on the market?
IT’S PEAT FREE: Peat is commonly found in most commercial potting mixes because of it’s ability to retain moisture while remaining light and fluffy. We only sell potting mixes that are free of peat moss. Why? Peat moss is a miracle of nature. It takes thousands of years to grow and is the foundation of wetland ecosystems. It’s a critical resource for absorbing and storing carbon in our atmosphere. Dredging it up and harvesting it from wetland bogs is environmentally damaging to sensitive wetland areas and really unnecessary. Alternatives exist that work just as well or better than peat! Peat is also a major reason plants get fungus gnats (those pesky little flies that live in your plant’s dirt), which can damage their roots and frustratingly difficult to get rid of!
CHEMICAL AND FERTILIZER FREE: Most commercial potting mixes come pre-treated with fertilizers meant to promote vigorous plant growth. But often the type or amount of fertilizer isn’t what your plant wants at certain times. Rapid bursts of growth can make it seem like these fertilizer infused soils are working great, but can leave your plant stressed from over-feeding. The rePotme mixes and mediums we offer contain ingredients that gradually release nutrients into the soil, such as charcoal, rice hulls and bark. Additional feeding should be done separately during the growth cycles best utilized by your plant, with the type of fertilizer best suited to its needs.
SUSTAINABLE INGREDIENTS: Most rePotme mixes we offer use a base of coco coir and coco bark chips - both byproducts of the coconut harvesting industry. This amazing ingredient offers both moisture retention and drainage and is a perfect replacement for peat. We also use and sell rice hulls - also a byproduct of the food industry, which offers drainage to prevent root rot and important nutrients as it breaks down.
FRESHNESS: RePotme ingredients are fresh and mixed for use just prior to being packaged and shipped. This makes it soft and easy to work with when repotting your plants, it absorbs moisture readily, and is free from pests and molds that can make their way into potting mixes that sit in storage for long periods of time. You will smell the difference!
